The Wisconsin State Crime Stoppers was created in 1989 comprised of local Crime Stoppers programs throughout Wisconsin. The purpose in organizing was to create a means in sharing and networking with other local Crime Stoppers programs on a regular basis. Since the primary objective of Crime Stoppers is to get the bad guys off the street, there really is no proprietary information that a Crime Stoppers organization needs to protect.
So, a process to network, communicate, train and work together as a state organization made quite a bit of sense then and more so today. One of the ways in which Wisconsin State Crime Stoppers integrates this sharing of information is through our annual training conference. At the conference, information is shared on best practices while operating an efficient and highly operational Crime Stoppers program. Presenters are from highly successful organizations as well as some programs throughout the United States.
The Wisconsin State Crime Stoppers is organized and operated by an elected volunteer board of directors by the Wisconsin State Crime Stoppers membership at its annual meeting. The Board of Directors is split between six civilian and six law enforcement board members. Board members are elected for a staggered two-year term. Following the annual election, the Board of Directors selects and elects the officers for a one-year term.
